Endometriosis Treatment Options

What is Endometriosis?

If you suffer from chronic or severe symptoms of endometriosis, such as painful, heavy periods, infertility, or pain with intercourse, an endometriosis resection is often recommended to remove endometrial implants.  Endometriosis resection is usually recommended for women who want to get pregnant in the future, as this procedure leaves the uterus and other organs in place.

Frequently Asked Questions

I have endometriosis. How can robot-assisted surgery help me?

Endometriosis resection can be performed through open abdominal surgery or laparoscopic surgery. A robotic surgical system allows for more thorough removal of deeply penetrated or widespread endometrial implants than can be removed through these other options.  And because this procedure requires only a few tiny incisions, it has all the benefits that minimally invasive robot-assisted surgery can offer:  less pain, less blood loss, a shorter hospital stay, a quicker recovery, and minimal scarring.

Dr. Chun performs robot-assisted hysterectomies at Winchester Hospital, a part of Lahey Health. If you would like more information about a robot-assisted hysterectomy or your other surgical options, call to make an appointment with Dr. Chun at 781-404-6923.
